Window Bird Feeder by Yellow Beaks Review

My kids have loved watching the birds this summer.  I set up a suet feeder outside of our kitchen window and we have watched the birds (and squirrels) since then.

I recently got to review a clear bird feeder that hooks onto your window with suction cups.  The acrylic feeder has three large suction cups that could have been a bit smaller. It was a bit tricky getting them on. Once it was on the window it has stayed attached without a problem! It is currently raining up a storm and it is holding strong!

The cups overlap a bit making it tricky to adhere at first.

I love the seamless design. No real nooks and crannies for gunk to accumulate in. It is very clear, so you never have to worry about  how much is left in the feeder and you can easily observe the birds.

There is a small round perch along the front for the birds to perch on while feeding. This past month has just been wonky weather and no real bird activity once I got the feeder.  I am hoping the weather gets nice soon and we can watch the birds again!

Oh Schwan' I wanted to love thee.

About a month ago I talked about Schwan's Food Delivery service. You can follow that little link right there to get to some coupons.

I was SUPER excited to try it out.  I got my gift certificate and spent forever scrolling through EVERY SINGLE PAGE.  Seriously.  I checked out every offering.  I even ended up spending over my gift card amount and used a coupon from the other page.

The website itself is set up really well.  The tabs are really well organized.  They even have a "kids favorites" full of normal kid friendly food.  I actually found the pizzas I wanted to get my kids there! Man, I loved those things when I was younger.

Incase you are curious, my order was:
cheese pizzas
Mini Super Sweet Corn on the Cob - Limited Time Offering-already gone
Lasagna Roll-ups-Limited TIme Offering
Orange Chicken Skillet Meal
Mini Bowtie pasta and vegetable blend
Microsteam Whole Greenbeans
Sea Salt Caramel & Cashew Blend Ice Cream

Ordering was super easy. They have online coupons and discounts on the site. So if you search, you can get some good deals.  For all those items, plus the $1.75 delivery fee, I spent $58.58 Since I had the coupons I didn't really look that hard for coupons and bought things that I normally wouldn't for the sake of this review.  Not that I picked out food that I don't like, I just never buy "complete frozen meals".  There once was a time where Eric and I lived on meals in bags for convenience.  Nowadays, with 3 kids, those are too expensive. Plus, being home I prefer to cook complete meals myself.  So, If I did normal shopping through this site I would not have spent $11.29 on the orange chicken...I would just drive the 2 minutes to the Chinese restaurant down the road.

Once I placed my order the site said someone would get in contact with me to set up delivery time.  Sure enough, a couple of days later I got a phone call from Schwan's. At checkout the date was confirmed, but the actual time window wasn't set.

From this call the time was set for 5pm-7pm.

My friend Holli from An Ordinary Blog, was flying in from Missouri that day, and that time would work perfect!  I could get my delivery and then her and I could run out for dinner.  5pm came and I waited...

and I waited...

and I waited.

Finally at 7pm, I said screw it and left.  I told Eric that they still might come, but I had no idea what was going on.  Holli and I went out, ran some errands, and got to a restaurant around 8pm. I was walking to my table when my phone rang with a number I didn't recognize.  I answered. It was the Schwan's man.  This is our phone call as best as I can remember:

SM:  Hey there.  I need to get directions to your house.
Me: realize that your delivery window was 5-7, right?  It is 8 o'clock
SM: Yeah.  I was running late.  Sorry. I need directions to your house.
Me: So, you can call to get directions TO MY HOUSE, but you can't call to say you are running behind?
SM: Oh sorry. I was running behind.
Me: Is this going to happen every week? I mean, my kids are asleep (bedtime is 8pm on school nights) I am not even at home at this point.  I left at 7pm after I never heard from you.
SM: No, I was just running behind.  Where do you live?
Me: What do you mean "Where do I live?"  Don't you have my address?
SM: Yes, it is ...
Me: So then you know where I live.
SM:  Well, if I was on ... how would I get there?
Me: Seriously? Where are you coming from?  That is a long road.

I then had to figure out where he was and give him TURN BY TURN directions into my neighborhood and to my house.  I do not live in the country.  ANY GPS will take you to my doorstep.  Heck, if you know my address you can Google map my house and see my minivan in my driveway.  There was absolutely NO need for me to do that.

Also, I know he said "sorry" but imagine a teenage girl saying sorry when she didn't mean it.  It was like that.  A half-assed "sorry".

I called Eric, had him pull up the order and make sure we got everything.  Eric said once he was there, he was nice. The order was delivered and he left.

I sat around  wondering what to do. I even contacted my rep on the 18th and sent her an email about my experience.  I wanted to tell her so maybe I could get an actual sorry.  I wasn't looking for another giftcard.  All I wanted was a bit of compassion from the company.  An actual "Sorry you went through that. That isn't how we operate. I hope you try us again in the future."  That's all. I didn't want anything free.  I wasn't fishing for anything...just an apology that he did that. A REAL one. Today is the 28th.  I never heard back.

So, I am cancelling my service. I tried to stop all deliveries to my house on the site, but I only see where I can change the date of the next service, but not stop deliveries all together.  I guess I have to call them.  To say I am disappointed with this is an understatement.  Other people I talked to, had amazing experiences. I guess I just got a bad delivery person.

Brief opinions of the food I have tried so far:
My kids LOVED the pizzas. I liked that it was something that I ate as a kid and they were eating it. Totally a nostalgia purchase for me.  They were expensive, about $12 for 6 small individual pizzas.  The kids gobbled them up though.

The orange chicken was good, but I wouldn't plan on having it on a regular basis.  Like I said, it was about $11.  If I wanted chinese, I would just drive to the restaurant down the road.  It was tasty though!  It said it made enough for 3 servings....those would be very small servings.  It was enough for Eric and I with no leftovers.

The ice cream is AWESOME.  It is soft, easily scoopable, and the flavor is amazing.  I HIGHLY recommend it.

So there you go.  If you try it, I hope you have a great experience. I wish I had.

I am receiving a GC in exchange for me telling you about this  service.  All opinions are my own...obviously.  Just the facts, ma'am.

STOP! Back up! I am switching gears a bit here.

Pull up a chair. It's time to get real here. I started this blog YEARS ago with the intention to share my family life with family. Then I kind of went a bit public and started throwing in some reviews for companies.  Basically, they had stuff that I wanted.

Then I found a site, started getting more stuff, and some how I turned into a lots of reviews, less about us site. Review sites are glorious. I LOVE them.  I am especially drawn to subscription box review sites, because, well, subscription boxes are AWESOME.

Being at TypeACon this past weekend, I had a lot of time to think.  I don't like the way that the blog is rolling lately.  While I do give my honest review of items, what is say is what I feel, I feel disingenuous pimping out Vitamin C serum.  I have a few reviews left to do and I am still going to do those.

You WILL still see Loot Crate, because Loot Crate is awesome.  I got my box this MIGHT have a Tribble inside.  (By might, of course I mean it does)

Video posted in case you don't know what a tribble is. Not going to say any names but someone in this house might not have known. Okay, Eric. It was Eric.  Eric didn't know what a tribble was.

I am not stopping ALL reviews, but I will be more selective in the future.   I think I need to get back more to the family life. More about US.  Is that self absorbed? Meh, maybe a bit.  But I think my family is probably the coolest thing since sliced bread.

So, here is to hoping you continue on this journey with me and maybe we can get a bit more "real" with each other.

Type A Con is this weekend...and I got all the mommy guilt.

Aidan is 8 years old, so it has been about 9 years since I really had a break.

Eric is absolutely wonderful and takes the kids to his parents house once a year. During those few days while they are away...I paint. I'm not talking pictures. I paint rooms. When I am not painting I am either working or crafting (for work).

I never really have a break.

Here I am in Atlanta with amazing friends, meeting fantastic new people, chatting it up with very nice sponsors, HUGGING LASSIE, and I feel so incredibly guilty.

This conference is an amazing chance for me to grow my blog and learn. I am having so much fun and feeling horribly guilty.

I haven't had an actual break since the kids were born. I don't ever "relax". If I am watching tv, I am also painting, sewing, stamping.  I never just stop.

Pretty sure this is exactly what I needed, but I still have a twinge of guilt. How do you get over that?

LOOT CRATE!!! aka The mail that makes me happy dance.

GAH!  That is my thoughts about Loot Crate.  I love this box. You can read my other two reviews HERE(adventure) and HERE(villains).

Little blurb about them and what they do:

Loot Crate is a monthly box for "geeks and gamers".  The starting price is $13.37/month plus $6 shipping.  So, about one grande latte a week.  Each box contains a $40+ retail value. Prices can vary depending on the plan you get. If you order a 3 month subscription you end up paying $12.37 plus shipping/month.  If you get a 6 month plan it breaks down to $11.37 plus shipping/month. You can sign up HERE.

Each month has a particular theme. Last month was Villains.  This month....HEROES! Let's break this box open and see what is inside.

PRETTY darn smart of them.  Two movies just came out.  Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I am pretty sure that everyone I know is in love with Groot.  This month the big gift was a Pop! figure of Groot. What makes this one cool is that it is a Loot Crate EXCLUSIVE!  What else makes him so cool?  He has a glow in the dark hand.

Next up....Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don't think you can get any more "hero-ish" than them.  I grew up watching them.  Kinda cool that they are making a comeback now that I have kids.

My kids stole my ninja turtle AND my glasses AND my crate that is decorated to look like their sewer.  (They aren't getting my Groot though.  They have been instructed.)

Seriously, how cute is that box?  And how cute is Nate?  He can wear them over his glasses. SCORE!

This month they had a super cute addition which had me googling for more.  ShWings!  (Shoe + wings)  We are all aware that certain shoes make kids run faster and jump higher.  I mean, the shoes that lit up ALWAYS offered optional performance in running when you were a kid.  Alas, now that I am a grown up, they don't make light up shoes any more.  These can help you fly, so, ya know, they are cooler.  (Please don't ACTUALLY try to fly while wearing ShWings) The package has one for each shoe.  Pretty sure I am putting these on my shoes this weekend.

There were a few different air fresheners this month.  I am SO glad I got Sonic.  That was one of my favorite games when I was younger.  My kids like playing it now!  Once I have my car back from the shop, up it goes!

Last few items: Your pin (of course), a fun magnet, and some bonus digital crate loot.

This box WELL exceeds the cost.  I have yet to get a box and think " was worth the $19.37 (cost + shipping for a month)  The boxes are claimed to be valued at $40+ and they really are.

Right now they are selling September crate.  Enter Galactic at check out and receive 10% off!  If you follow them on Instagram, sometimes they drop hints about next months items!

I received a box free for review purposes, but all opinions are totally my own. I wish I could say the items are all mine as well, but my kids yanked most. Darn kids.

Baby Boutique Headbands Review & Giveaway

My first two kiddos were boys, obviously.  Once I found out I was pregnant with V I was THRILLED!  I pictured having a baby girl with tons of adorable hair.  Both boys were hairy monster when born. It was only natural that the girl would have hair. I pictured pigtail and bows and barrettes.

What I got was a beautiful baby girl who was basically bald until she was two. I made hair bows upon hairbows. She wouldn't wear them. What she will wear though is headbands, but only if she chooses them.

When I was given the chance to review some headbands from I was scared. They looked cute online, were a great price (so I wouldn't feel silly recommending to you guys), but would they pass the Veronica test.

They did! So much in fact, that I didn't get a picture of one without V wearing it.

The first two shown are the pink cherry blossom and the torquise rosette headbands.  When you first look at the headbands the elastic looks SMALL. These are very stretchy.  V, almost 4 can still wear these and she doesn't have a tiny head.  I would say her head is average size.

I also received the Black/Pink Floral Shabby Chic Headband. It is cute.  She hasn't worn this as much because she enjoys the brighter colors. I think this is a good fall bow.  I can picture this with a pair of jeggings and a cute sweater.

The red flapper headband would be ADORABLE in pictures. This one comes individually wrapped on a card to protect the feather. I might endup passing this one on to someone with a baby.  While I love it, a 3 year old might damage the feather. I think this is best for potato mode where the baby just sits there. Or maybe for a photographer prop where it isn't worn all day long.

V's absolute favorite is the Hot Pink Classy headband. LOVE IT!!!  Picture at the bottom (You can click that link to follow me on Instagram)

Want to win your own set?  Enter bellow! You can check out the full listing of headbands HERE.

#FitMadeFun Party

Saturday September 6th,2014 was Fit Made Fun Day!  If you haven't heard, on that day LeapFrog was celebrating how fitness can be a fun experience for all!  They ever were trying to set multiple Guiness World Records in Santa Monica, CA. In celebration of this, LeapFrog and CLIF Kid joined together to sponsor parties around the country!

I was SO excited when I got picked to host a #FitMadeFun party hosted by LeapFrog and CLIF Kid.  Unfortunately/Fortunately the date for the party ended up being a day when we were going to be spending 5 hours at the park.  So, I did the most logical step,I signed up for snacks that day and brought the LeapBands along!

The LeapBands are INCREDIBLY fun.   Before you pass it on to your kids, you need to upload the data to your computer.  The download is super easy from their site. From there you can block off times where the games aren't active.  School times and sleep times are already blocked out, those times are easy to change though.  I really love this feature.  The clock is still active, but your little ones won't be up all night playing games.

V LOVES to take care of her pet on the band.  You earn coins which in turn give you access to more characters to play with.  You can bathe, feed, name, and even exchange your pet.  V's favorite is the unicorn, while the boys like the penguin or robot. We have a serious penguin fascination in this house.

There are 50 different activities to choose from. There is also a clock and stop watch.  I won't tell you how many times my kids have timed each other racing through the house since receiving these.

V doesn't play soccer yet,but that doesn't stop her from stealing the boys old jerseys to fit in!

This band has been a HUGE hit in this house.  I can really see this being a big hit this Christmas.  Watches are always a big hit with kids, mine especially, but a watch with games AND pets?  Hands down, fun for the kids.  V, 3yo, loves it.  Nate, 6yo, he likes it. Aidan, 8yo, he likes it, but won't wear it. He just holds it.  The band is preformed into a circle. I think it hits his wrist funny.  The bands are geared for ages 4-7, so that makes sense.

After Nate's game was over, we passed out the CLIF Kids bars!  At the time of posting, their site was having issues. You can check them on Facebook though!

I had three flavors to pass out. Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Mint, and Chocolate Peanut Butter.  Out of both teams AND my kids, Chocolate Chip was the hands down winner.  Chocolate Peanut Butter came in second.

My kids are VERY anti-mint.  Maybe this is a trend among kids.  No one really picked the mint bars.  Fine by me though, I really like them.  It is a great merge of the two ingredients.  Neither chocolate or mint are too strong.  I really like the texture as well.  They stick together and aren't crumbly.

Nate loved how the bottom is covered in chocolate.  These have become a staple for his school lunch now and have replaced another type of snack bar.  I really like how these have 5 grams of protein in each bar.  While chocolate is considered a treat, I figure that these area healthier treat and don't mind them requesting them!

I want to say a special thank you to LeapFrog, MommyParties, and CLIF Kids for helping me host a super fun party and for providing snacks for the two teams!   You definitely added fun to the sidelines as well as making happy tummies.  (And multiple moms happy with healthier treats after the games!)

I received free products in order to host the LeapFrog and CLIF Kid sponsored MommyParty. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Best Neurologist Phone call EVER

If you have been following me for a while, you know that my Naters has epilepsy. I don't really dwell on it much, because it doesn't really impact our lives too much.  The only big things that aren't really big are: He can't ride the bus or hang out at friends houses without either Eric or myself.  Technically he COULD go to other kids houses without us, but saying to a parent that doesn't really know us "Hey there. Nate has emergency seizure meds. If he has one that lasts over 5 minutes you need to squirt this in his butt." isn't the greatest way to make new friends

His first seizure was almost 3 years ago on October 8th, 2011.  It was the day before mine and Eric's anniversary and I was set up at the farmers market selling my stuff when my phone rings.  This was the call.  (The best I can remember. It was REALLY awkward)

Me: Hello?
Guy: Hey.  Um.  Your son is having a seizure on the soccer field.
Me:  Say what, now?
Guy: Yeah, um.  Your son is having a seizure and your husband is with him. The ambulance is on it's way.
Me:  Ummm...ok. I am coming.
Guy: Your husband is going to ride over there in the ambulance.  We'll keep your other kids until you get here.

Commence total panic and throwing everything into the car.  I literally shoved everything in the car. In the craft world, the other vendors have your back. EVERYONE stopped what they were doing and helped...even the little old 80 year old ladies.

Next month....Thanksgiving...another seizure.

Nate has been on meds for about 3 years now. Last week he had a 24 hour EEG.  Thankfully this one was at home.  The first long one he had we were stuck in the hospital all day.  Try keeping a 3 year old sitting on a bed all day long.

I JUST received a phone call. His EEG was clean. No abnormal discharges. THIS IS HUGE, GUYS.  I was always under the impression that the meds kept the discharges from happening.  I just found out that the abnormal discharges still occur. It just keeps the discharges from turning into a seizure.

I have been SUPER scared about taking him off meds. We actually talked about it in January and I have been terrified.  Now though, I think I am ready.  Having a clean EEG is AMAZING.  There is still a 50% chance that he will have a seizure when coming off the meds.  I think at this point with a clean EEG, I am comfortable enough to do this.  We are going to start in December.

The weaning off process will take about 2 months, then the first 6 months he will have the highest likelihood of having a seizure. After that, the chance drops significantly. If we make it two years without a seizure after being fully off meds we get to say "So long!"to epilepsy!  That is one relationship I will be HAPPY to see dissolve!

Seriously. This is the greatest day.   Here is a weird pic of Nate for you.

Day Out with Thomas is coming back!

Last year I was SOOOOO excited to take V on Thomas the Tank Engine. SUPER excited.   Eric was even going to go with us. Know what happened the night before?  Aidan broke his leg so Eric did NOT get to ride the choo-choo train.I think he was legitimately disappointed!

Australian Tea Tree Oil review!

Before kiddos I worked at a salon & spa.  Working there I got to experience many firsts.I had my first pedicure, my first lash extensions, and I had my first facial.  If you haven't had a professional facial, it is way more than just cleansing the skin. There is cleaning, toning, extracting, and treatments. During treatments, that is where I discovered tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil is a fascinating oil. It is kind of a multipurpose oil. You can make shampoo, cleansers(for body and household use), lice treatment, soap, acne treatment, flea treatments, seriously.  A ton of stuff. I ran out a while ago and when I was approached to review it, I excitedly said yes.

Apothecary Extracts Tea Tree Oil is only available on Amazon. The bottle size is a VERY generous 4oz.  I am used to small one ounce bottles, so it didn't really "click" how large it was going to be until I saw it.  This will last me well over a year.

With every purchase you receive a 100 page eBook full of 53 different uses for your oil.  You get recipes for the bathroom: mouth wash, cleanser, and bath salts, just to name a couple.

What really jumped out at me is the amount of home uses. I never really think of essential oils for use in the house.  I guess from my first experience with them, them being in the spa environment, I never really thought of them otherwise. There are directions on how to make your own reed diffusers and air fresheners with the tea tree! They say that it has a "medium" strength on Amazon...I would disagree on this point. I think it is stronger than that. Unless you LOVE the aroma, I would mix it with another oil if you were doing a room fragrance.

Overall, I have been super happy with my bottle.  It has taken care of the minor breakouts I have been having lately due to the heat.  Word of warning, if applying for skin care, give yourself some time for the aroma to disperse before leaving the house.  No one needs to know your beauty tricks.  That can be our secret.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

SPEAKING of socks, they have 30+ NEW fall styles coming out. They ALSO have a new line. If you read my old post, WHICH YOU SHOULD HAVE, I disclose that I am not a size 2 GASP! I bought some Curvy socks and loved them.

There are a few more tips.

So read, draw, and enter!!  Good luck!
