Once upon a time I was a very, very tired mom. A mom who was constantly in yoga pants, barely had time for a shower, and rarely got out of the house. No, not last week. Well, yeah. Last week, but I am talking about when I was a new mom. What I wouldn't have given for delivery other than pizza. New moms are in luck, because a new company has arrived in Charlotte...DoorDash.
"DoorDash is an on-demand delivery service that connects customers with local businesses. Through in less than 45 minutes - thanks to our revolutionary logistics technology.
Founded in 2013 in a dorm room at Stanford, DoorDash began with a mission to empower local economies in a connected world. By building the on-demand delivery infrastructure for local cities, we’re bringing communities closer, one doorstep at a time."
The app and website are super easy to use. You sign in, peruse the restaurants on the list, place your order and wait. Throughout the country DoorDash has over 10,000 restaurants they partner with meaning there is always something new to try. This year they are even expanding internationally!
When you place your order, you can either order for delivery right then, or schedule in advance. I ordered that morning before the restaurants opened so I had all times available. Around peak times there can be a wait, so don't wait to the last minute and expect to get it right away. This screen shot was taken smack dab in the middle of dinner time and you can see the delivery time reflects that.
MOST restaurants on the app have the same prices on the site as they do in the store. Some do have up charges so pay attention.
There is small delivery fee. Currently it is $1/order in Charlotte. Starting in April it is going up to $3.99/order. Still though, $4 to be able to get good food in your jammies , I think it is totally worth it.
The app even adds the tip in for you. It automatically defaults to 15%. With a click of a button you can change the tip to 10%, 20%, or even choose to pay cash. Personally, I loved the fact that I could pay for it all with my card and not have to exchange any physical money in person. Additional tipping is allowed, but not required.
Last week I had the opportunity to try this service out with some of my blogging friends. Door Dash had plenty of people on hand and was ready for us.
I decided to order from two different places. Room 112 for lunch and Amelie's for dessert later that night. I did have to place two different transactions since it was from two restaurants. This meant two separate delivery fees. Being $1/order right now it wasn't a problem. If it was $3.99/order I would have only ordered from one place.
I placed my orders that morning and was able to choose a delivery time. They give it a 30min window, Amelie's was 11:30-12pm, Room 112 was 11:45-12:15pm.
All that was left to do was sit around and wait. While waiting, DoorDash sent me updates to let me know the status. I got texts from both drivers telling me they were at the restaurant waiting on my food. They also sent messages telling me they were on the way. When they arrive, another text. I really liked that aspect. I am a rather impatient person when I am waiting. It was nice being kept in the loop constantly.
The delivery went incredibly smoothly. My pastries complete with rolling blueberries stayed picture perfect.
If you are interested in trying them out for yourself, head over to their website and see if they are in your area! If they are, sign up and use the code HouseofBoys2 to save $5 off a $20 order!
